Our Organization - The Newark Alliance is a non-profit organization comprised of key leaders from some of New Jersey’s major corporations, Newark’s higher education community and civic and non-profit organizations. The Newark Alliance works in partnership with government, civic organizations, labor, the non-profit sector and the community to improve Newark’s economy and public educational system. The CEO or equivalent of participating organizations comprises the Board of Trustees.
Key Highlights:
- Founded December 1999
- Launched Newark Champions of Learning Interactive Grant Program in 2001; To date $90,000 grants awarded
- Launched Planning Phase of OpportunityNewark Strategic Economic Development Plan in October 2005
- Launched Implementation Phase of OpportunityNewark Strategic Economic Development Implementation Plan in April 2006
- Became lead organization in U.S. DOL Workforce Innovation in Regional Economic Development (WIRED) initiative in January 2006; Awarded $100,000 Planning Grant
- Awarded $5.1 million U.S. DOL WIRED grant in January 2007 to implement innovative workforce development programs in eight northern NJ counties
- Awarded $50,000 grant from the Victoria Foundation to develop truck driving workforce initiative in January 2007 & January 2008
- Launched the Newark Community Foundation in January 2007
