Senior Director, Communications & External Affairs

As Senior Director of Communications & External Affairs at Newark Alliance, Erin Bush leads strategic storytelling and engagement efforts that elevate the organization’s initiatives, partnerships, and impact across Newark’s economic development landscape. In this role, she oversees communications strategy, brand positioning, and external relations designed to strengthen connections between the Alliance, its members, and the broader community.

Erin brings more than a decade of experience in marketing, communications, and digital storytelling across both corporate and community-centered environments. She has developed product messaging, educational content, and integrated communications strategies for multimillion-dollar brands including fresh, Kipling, and Bed Bath & Beyond, and contributed digital editorial storytelling at ESSENCE and Digital Trends. Across these roles, she cultivated a reputation for translating complex ideas into compelling narratives that resonate with diverse audiences.

Her work increasingly focused on the intersection of storytelling and economic opportunity, leading her into community-driven development initiatives in Newark. Most recently, Erin served as Director of Community at Makerhoods, a $30 million urban revitalization project supporting more than 75 micro-entrepreneurs. There, she designed entrepreneurship training programs, built strategic partnerships with organizations including Audible and Prudential, and helped local founders access the resources, networks, and visibility needed to grow their businesses.

Prior to joining Newark Alliance, Erin served as Director of Marketing & Communications at the Halsey Street Business Association (HBA), where she led campaigns highlighting neighborhood businesses, cultural programming, and development activity while expanding community engagement and strengthening the district’s visibility among residents, visitors, and stakeholders.

Across her work, Erin is driven by a commitment to authentic storytelling, equitable economic growth, and building communications strategies that center people, place, and possibility.
