Solomon Steplight serves as Chief Executive Officer & President of Newark Alliance, bringing extensive leadership experience across government, technology, and the nonprofit sector. Throughout his career, his work has focused on expanding economic and educational opportunity, strengthening communities, and building partnerships that translate ambitious ideas into meaningful investments and opportunities for the people and communities they serve.
Steplight has deep personal and professional connections to Newark, from his early experiences growing up in the city to serving in senior financial leadership roles with the City of Newark. His public-sector career also includes leadership roles in Hoboken and East Orange, where his work encompassed municipal operations, financial management, infrastructure, economic development, and strategic investment. Across these roles, he has helped lead complex organizations and advance initiatives designed to strengthen communities and create long-term economic opportunity.
Steplight’s experience also extends to the technology and nonprofit sectors. As Chief Operating Officer and Chief Financial Officer of Girls Who Code, he helped support the organization’s work to expand access and opportunity for women and girls in technology. His cross-sector background brings together public service, operational leadership, technology, and a commitment to creating pathways for people and communities to thrive.
Steplight holds a B.S. and M.S. in Mechanical Engineering and Applied Mechanics from the University of Pennsylvania. As CEO of Newark Alliance, he leads the organization’s work to advance inclusive economic growth and strengthen Newark as a place to live, work, learn, play, and do business.
