Chief District Management Officer
Susan McKay serves as the Chief District Management Officer at Newark Alliance, where she leads efforts to enhance Newark’s downtown through coordinated operations, district-wide service delivery, and strategic collaboration with local stakeholders. With over 15 years of experience in public safety, operations, and administrative leadership, Susan brings deep expertise in managing complex urban environments and public-facing services.
Prior to joining Newark Alliance, Susan held multiple leadership roles at the Newark Downtown District (NDD), most recently as Director of Operations. In this role, she oversaw the NDD’s Ambassador Program, managing teams responsible for ensuring public safety, hospitality, and cleanliness throughout the district. Her work involved engaging directly with businesses, residents, and visitors to support a vibrant and accessible downtown experience. As Operations Manager, she helped shape the district’s daily service strategy and served as a vital link between NDD initiatives and the community.
Susan is a Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) and has demonstrated a strong commitment to building cross-sector partnerships that advance inclusive growth and equitable outcomes. She continues to leverage her extensive operations and public safety background to create cleaner, safer, and more welcoming spaces in Newark.
Outside of work, Susan enjoys exploring Newark’s small businesses and cultural offerings, and is deeply passionate about fostering a sense of belonging in urban communities.
